Mechanism Of Sink Strainer Plug And Its Parts

Introduction
Sink Strainer Plug is one of those essential elements of a sink strainer, however, nobody recognizes it. Individuals have a misconception about repairing, installing and mechanism of sink plug. This is not a challenging task at all. Its installation is very easy, but this is when you familiarize yourself with all its parts.

A Sink Strainer Plug has four parts and its mechanism is based on these parts. Lift rod, clevis strap, pivot rod and stopper itself are the four major parts. Lift rod and stopper are those parts which can be clearly seen. Both operate by simply pulling/pushing them. When you pull the lift rod, the water flows down from the faucet to the drain. Contrasting to this, when you push the lift rod, the water will start getting accumulated in the basin. On the other hand, clevis strap and pivot rod are hidden parts. They are the complicated ones.

Stopper
Strainer plug usually has fin-like, smooth surface and round shape body extensions. There is a hole or loop at the end of the plug which is attached the plug. Make sure that when you fix the plug into the sink, the bottom of the plug should be pointed to the drain pipe opening.

Lift rod
Apart from the stopper, the exposed part of the sink plug is the lift rod. This plays a very important role in the mechanism of the plug. As mentioned above, it works in two ways; one is pulling it and second is pushing it. You yourself have to select and use the option as and when you feel it is required. For placing the lift rod correctly into the mechanism you have to insert the end part of the rod into the holes of the clevis strap. Then put the screw in between the two holes of the strap and then tighten it.

Clevis strap
There are many holes in the clevis strap; one in the end is shaped like alphabet “C.” Spring clip is put in this hole and then connected with each other. Due to this clip, the placing of pivot rod is done correctly.

Pivot rod
This rod is in direct connection to the Sink Strainer Plug. There are two ends of the pivot door which vary from each other in length. The short end connects with the large ball inserted in the sink’s opening. This goes from the stopper hole. This rod basically works for pushing the stopper up.
